Portuguese giants Benfica are putting in a massive effort to thwart Manchester United and Manchester City’s attempts to snap up one of their most exciting talents.
According to reports coming out of Portugal, Benfica is set to offer teenage wonder-kid Joao Felix a massive new contract to see off the persistent interest from the Red Devils and the Citizens.
The 19-year-old has scored an incredible 18 goals this season which has brought him to the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including United, who are seen as the front runners for his signature.
Despite being the favourites to land the youngster United does face some stiff competition from bitter local rivals City and it has to be assumed that Benfica faces an uphill struggle to hang on to their starlet.
Apparently, they will be offering a £2.1 million-a-year contract but you have to think that both United and City can easily trump that offer, it is just £40k a week which is hardly going to break the bank in Manchester.
