Arsenal manager Unai Emery is putting in a massive effort to sign one of his former players and beat Manchester United in the process.
It is being reported in the British media that Emery is very keen on signing PSG fullback Thomas Meunier, who he previously worked with when he was the manager of the French Champions.
The Spaniard will face an uphill task though following the news that Manchester United have started negotiations over a potential £22 Million deal for the 27-year-old defender.
Emery has apparently tried to make personal contact with the Belgium international in an effort to thwart United and persuade his former player to rejoin him in London.
Meunier has just one year remaining on his current contract and with no sign of an extension being agreed in Paris, it is almost certain that he will be departing PSG this summer and because there is just the 12 months remaining on his contract he will be available for a lot less than would normally be the case.
He is a player that Emery knows well and that Arsenal can afford and it would be a huge disappointment for the Gunners if it is United rather than Arsenal that emerges the winners in the battle for the players signature.
