The future for Anthony Martial at Manchester United had looked bleak under Jose Mourinho, rumours were flying that he would be seeking a move away from Old Trafford but that has all changed following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim manager.
It had been feared that Martial would simply run down his contract and leave on a free transfer, that prospect was somewhat mitigated when United exercised a clause in Martial’s contract and extended his tenure at United by a further year but with the ongoing problems between the player and previous manager Jose Mourinho, it was felt that it was just a matter of time before a parting of ways took place.
That decision to extend Martial’s contract was taken just a day before Mourinho left Old Trafford and from that moment onwards everything has changed for the young Frenchman.
Solskjaer and Martial have established a great working relationship
The arrival of Solskjaer has seen Martial play much more and it is clear to anyone watching that the demeanour of the player has completely changed, he has a smile now, is playing much better and generally comes across as a happy and contented player.
All this has lead to the 23-year-old to begin talks with the club about extending his contract on a long term basis and it is now being reported that there is agreement all round on a new five-year contract
Martial is now expected to put pen to paper within the next few days putting an end to all speculation about his future in Manchester.
