Manchester United are scouring Europe as they attempt to rebuild their squad into a team capable of competing for the Premer league next season and they have identified Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic as one of the players they feel can help them achieve that ambition.
It appears that Barcelona is willing to sell the Croatia international providing that United meet their asking price reported to be £48 Million.
United can easily afford that sort of outlay, however, the word is that Rakitic himself is not at all keen on leaving Barca and that only a significantly better contract than what he is on now will be enough to persuade him to depart the Nou Camp.
The problem for Rakitic is that Barcelona will not be offering him an improved contract and at 31 years of age it is difficult to see United going overboard either.
Inter Milan was reported to also be interested but they have dropped out of the running since Antonio Conte took over.
There is a feeling that Rakitic would be a mercenary signing wanting one last big payday and it is questionable if the United fans will be keen on their team signing such a player.
