Liverpool to hijack Man Utd plans to create dream partnership

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants Matthijs de Ligt as a defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk according to the latest transfer gossip.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are all keen on the Ajax wonderkid and United are viewed as the front runners, however, Klopp is determined to create the best defence in Europe and sees the 19-year-old Ajax captain as the perfect partner for van Dijk.

Klopp is not looking to make any major signings this summer but a player like de Ligt comes around rarely, he could easily be at Anfield for a decade or more and is already highly experienced and of the highest quality and he is still just a teenager.

De Ligt and Van Dijk already play together for the Netherlands national team, and so know each other’s game inside out and you only have to listen to the Dutch head coach Ronald Koeman to understand how good they are together.

‘We have the best centre defenders with De Ligt and Virgil,’ he said. ‘They are top defence players.

‘That’s great because you build the house, always, from downstairs. You don’t start with the roof.’

He added: ‘We are on a good way back to where we would like to stay as a country.’

De Ligt will not come cheap but Liverpool has money to spend and can afford the rumoured £70 Million it will cost to sign the youngster and deliver a bloody nose to bitter rivals Man Utd at the same time.
