Liverpool is getting closer and closer to completing the signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille, according to the latest reports out of France.
The President of Lille, Gerard Lopez has confirmed that talks have taken place between the player and representatives of Liverpool.
In an interview with RMC Sport, Lille’s president Gerard Lopez confirmed that Liverpool officials have had several talks with the Ivorian footballer,
“I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club, Liverpool has players in those positions, and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not”, Lopez said.
“I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”
Nicolas Pepe had an exceptional 2018/2019 season with Lille, scoring 23 goals and 12 assists. He is valued at 65 million euros by transfermarkt.com, but according to L’Equipe, Lille will demand a fee in the region of £70 Million from the European Champions.
Pepe joined Lille in 2017 for just 10 million euros, so the Ligue 1 outfit will realise a massive profit on the 24-year-old.
The Reds are not the only club interested in the winger with Lopez adding,
“We had two offers before the Africa Cup of Nations.
“We’ll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs.”
If Liverpool manages to pull off this transfer it will be a major coup and strengthen their attack even more, which is a frightening prospect for their Premier League rivals.
