In a development that will not be welcomed by the vast majority of their fans, Chelsea are reported to be in talks with former manager Rafa Benitez about taking over from Maurizio Sarri.
Benitez has yet to reach an agreement with Newcastle about extending his contract which comes to an end at the end of July and the word is that the potential new owner Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan favours a different manager to the Spaniard.
For their part Chelsea is almost certain to require a new manager once Sarri departs for Juventus and so, on the face of it, it would seem that this would be a marriage made in heaven, well, no.
Despite leading Chelsea to Europa League glory when he was previously in charge at Stamford Bridge the fans simply despise Benitez.
The heckling and booing in Benitez first game in charge at Stamford Bridge was ferocious, there were Rafa out banners everywhere and it never got any better.
Frank Lampard remains the favourite for the job and no doubt the supporters will be hoping that it is their former legend that fills the managerial position and not the man they thoroughly hate.
