Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater could be on the verge of reigniting his career in Italy, according to reports in the media today.
Talksport is claiming that new Roma manager Claudio Ranieri is keen to be reunited with Drinkwater, who has seen his career stalled since joining Chelsea in Septemeber 2017.
The 29-year-old was an integral part of Ranieri’s Leicester City side that won the Premier League in 2016, however, since joining Chelsea in a £35million deal he has featured in just 12 Premier League games and appears to have no future in West London.
Ranieri has been handed the reins at Roma following a poor three-month spell at Fulham and to some extent is in the same boat as Drinkwater in that he is looking to reignite a career that has been on a downward spiral ever since his historic title-winning season with Leicester.
This particular rumour does make sense for all parties, Drinkwater would be back playing under a manager that has trust in him and who knows how to get the best from him, it makes sense for Chelsea because they will recoup some of the money they splashed out and will be offloading a player they would not necessarily need to replace considering the impending transfer ban they face.
