Chelsea leading the race for French ace despite Spurs making first move

Chelsea is the leading side in the race for the signature of Thomas Lemar.

The French forward has been struggling since he joined Atletico Madrid two years ago. He now looks set to make a move away from Spain with Chelsea the new front runners.

Diego Simeone recently admitted that he has failed to live up to the expectations since signing for Atletico.

Express Sports is claiming that Chelsea is leading the race for his signature despite Tottenham being the first team to declare interest in his services.

Jose Mourinho had been looking to add the 24-year-old to his team this month. The Portuguese boss is confident that he can help Lemar get back to his best.

Frank Lampard has been linked with several attacking players this month as he looks to bolster his options.

The Blues couldn’t sign any player in the last transfer window because of their transfer ban. This has been lifted and they are expected to make some signing to make up for lost time.

The report claims that Lemar features high on the list of players that Frank Lampard is targeting but he would have to see off competition from Spurs.

Jose Mourinho will have to be without Harry Kane for the next two months through injury and he wants someone to reduce their reliance on their fit forwards.

  1. Wouldnt go for Lemar. Go for Chukeueze from Villareal, younger quicker and has goals and assists in his locker.
