Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was keen to add RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner to his squad in the summer but according to reports in Germany, Bayern Munich has won the race to sign the young forward.
According to BILD, Werner has chosen to sign for the Bundesliga champions though no deal has yet been concluded.
The 22-year-old has rejected overtures from Liverpool, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid and decided that his career is best served to remain in Germany. All that is required now is for the Leipzig and Bayern to agree on a fee.
Klopp will be disappointed, Werner is the exact sort of player he likes, he is young and versatile, has played at the highest levels and would have fitted in well at Anfield under Klopp’s direction.
There is still an outside chance that Bayern and Leipzig fail to come to an agreement but as far as Klopp will be concerned that boat has sailed and he will no doubt already be looking at other options.
