Spanish giants Barcelona and French Champions Paris Saint Germain are set to go head to head for the signature of Chelsea midfielder Willian but there is one huge hurdle in the way that will prevent any deal no matter how much is offered.
According to the latest reports Barcelona are set to table a bid in the region of €35 Million and under normal circumstances, Chelsea would snap their hands off for that sort of money for a player that is 30-year-old and about to enter the final year of his contract but news today that FIFA has upheld the transfer ban on the Europa League semi-finalists means they are no longer in a position to be selling any of their players.
For their part, PSG would have offered cash and Julian Draxler, but again with the transfer ban almost certain to come into effect, unless the Court for Arbitration rules otherwise, then no swap deal can happen.
This is now a major issue for Chelsea, it also means that they are unlikely to sanction the sale of Eden Hazard or bring in any player over the age of 16 for at least two transfer windows.
The effect on the club could be far-reaching but for now, it means that Willian is unlikely to be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.
