It is being reported that Barcelona is looking to sign Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, on a free transfer at the end of the season.
According to Goal.com officials from the Spanish giants have already made contact with representatives of the 30-year-old former Spanish international.
Mata’s contract expires in the summer and there is almost no chance that he will be staying at Old Trafford, however, Barcelona is not the only club interested, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keen on the player.
Mata set to leave United in the summer
United have not given up completely in trying to get Mata to agree to an extension but he is reported to have made the decision to depart in the summer for one last challenge.
Mata in on a wage of £140,000 and because he is available on a free transfer it is likely that Barcelona will offer him close to that money, something United will not do.
Mata has made 208 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 44 goals and 35 assists, however, he has never really been a regular and despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking over from Jose Mourinho he is still nothing more than a fringe player.
