Arsenal to take on Tottenham in race to sign Champions League hero

Arsenal wants to sign the young midfielder that scored the winning goal against their bitter rivals Tottenham in last weeks Champions League semi-final first-leg, according to reports coming out of France.

Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek has been in blistering form this season and even before last weeks game was on a whole host of top clubs radars, including Tottenham themselves.

Other clubs interested in the 22-year-old include Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain.

The biggest problem for Arsenal, however, will be the £45 Million price tag slapped on the youngster by his club, that sort of figure would take up a huge slice of the Gunners transfer budget and if they fail to qualify for next seasons Champions League it will take up their entire budget.

The youngster is definitely worth the money, he has put in consistently excellent performances and has been likened to none other than former Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes.

Arsenal desperately needs to add quality to their mediocre midfield who have been found wanting on many occasions this season, a midfield that played a large part in their end of season collapse.

Ajax faces the prospect of their amazing team being broken up at the end of the season and Arsenal and for that matter, Tottenham will be keen on grabbing what they can and it will be interesting to see if either club is prepared to meet the Dutch giants asking price.
