Arsenal to go head to head with Real Madrid for South American midfielder Reiner Jesus

All manner of players continue to be linked with a move to Arsenal and the latest name that can be added to the long list of targets is Flamengo midfielder Reinier Jesus.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also interested in the 17-year-old and he is said to be an admirer of Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane, however, the Gunners are actually seen as the front runners for the youngsters signature.

What gives Arsenal the edge apparently is Jesus compatriot Edu, who is set to be named the new technical director at the Emirates.

According to the reports Jesus is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in South America and Arsenal manager Unai Emery is said to be particularly impressed with the teenager.

The young lad has not even appeared at senior level for Flamengo but he has captained the Brazilian U17 side scoring five goals in just nine games for them.

No fee has been mentioned and it has to be questioned why the Gunners will be looking to sign young talent with the small transfer budget they currently have, it also brings into question the future of some of Arsenal’s young talent who must be wondering where do they stand if Emery is scouring the world for hot prospects.
