Over the last few weeks, there has been speculation linking Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka with a move to Italian side Inter Milan but now the Swiss international has come out and dismissed the rumours out of hand.
Xhaka had a mixed season at the Emirates and his future with the club had been put into doubt and it was no surprise to read about him being linked with a move away from North London but he is having none of it slamming the rumours as untrue.
“They’ve been writing newspapers, but nothing is true,” he replied to a question about the rumours
“This is just speculation and I do not have any contact with the Inter club.”
Well, that was fairly categorical but it will not stop the speculation.
Arsenal need to sell to add to their low transfer budget and the brutal truth is that Xhaka did not impress last season and he is one of a few players that the club can get a tasty transfer fee for and it can be argued that whatever money that Arsenal did generate selling the 26-year-old could be used to buy an upgrade and probably for less than what they would receive for him.
The Arsenal midfield was one of the weakest performing areas last season and Xhaka must shoulder some of the responsibility for that and that is why rumours will continue to pop up linking him with a move.
And the simple reason for that is that it is not really up to him and if Arsenal wants rid, then he will be sold.
