It is being widely reported that Arsenal are on the verge of completing their first summer signing with the news that they have reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba.
According to the reports, the Gunners have agreed a five-year contract with the 18-year-old and all that is left to complete the deal is to agree on a fee with his club, St Etienne.
The France Under-19 international was also wanted by Manchester City and Manchester United, but it is Arsenal that has stolen a march on their rivals by being the first to agree to personal terms with the teenager.
Arsenal struggled badly in defence last season and despite Saliba’s young age, there is confidence that he will adapt to the English game and be in contention for a first-team spot almost immediately.
The Gunners have already had two bids rejected by St Etienne so it is not yet set in stone that the youngster will be at the Emirates next season but the signs are all positive that the clubs can come to an agreement over the transfer fee and Arsenal are expected to table a third bid any day now.
This one does look like it is going to happen.
