A personal adviser to the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has admitted that Ajax sensation David Neres was better off joining Ajax rather than the Blues.
Renowned scout Piet de Visser was closely monitoring the young Brazilian with his compatriot, Ajax scout Hans van der Zee, and has confessed that Van der Zee was ahead of him in noticing how good Neres was.
Speaking to De Telegraaf de Visser said
“We were both very fond of him,” he told De Telegraaf.
“A compliment to Van der Zee, because I didn’t know Neres at all. Although I was often working for Chelsea in Brazil, we hadn’t noticed him yet. It is good that Ajax has pushed through his arrival.
“Afterwards, Ajax was also better for his development than Chelsea. He did it. He was fantastic against Real Madrid, but last Sunday against Fortuna Sittard I saw it again, that effectiveness.”
He is probably right, Chelsea is not known for bringing their youngsters through, they instead tend to loan out their hot prospects, whereas Ajax much prefers to blood their youngsters in the senior team on a regular basis, a policy that is clearly working out well for them.
But as usually is the case, it is just a matter of time before one of Europe’s richer clubs come calling and that could easily include Chelsea.
